Church History Classes Covering 100 A.D. through 300 A.D. Resume February 12, 2017.

We are excited to begin a new semester of Church History  classes in our Equipping Hour here at Grace Bible Church. This semester, Job Dalomba will be teaching sessions on church history, covering significant events, people and documents from 100 A.D. through 300 A.D.. We will examine in particular the early defenses of Christianity, the formations and settling of important doctrines, and the heresies that arose. The similarities and importance of these centuries to our current context will be very important in helping us in our current place in history.

The goal of this course is to help us understand better the faith and history that we have inherited, and how we came to where we are now in history. We will also better understand how Christians have historically lived in hostile times, how the gospel has grown over the last two centuries, how our doctrines, traditions and structures were formed, and how they have changed over time.

The time will be free to allow for teaching, questions and discussions. It will not be a mere recounting of facts. We want to tell stories, take asides and see how these events explain other things that came later, stop to put a spotlight on certain documents, Christian leaders and events, and examine the factors involved in history that God has used to bring things about.

While in this time, all will be stretched and will be pleasantly surprised how they will be changed as a result of knowing our history better. We will likely have figures, groups, traditions and practices that we appreciate more, and some we see in a new light that we hadn’t seen before.
